What is now being put down in the field of Human Rights from the NGOs in Suriname is great! Stichting Lobi Health Center, Women's Rights Centre Suriname and Parea Suriname, have joined forces to compile a report based on our work areas on the themes of sexual, reproductive health and rights (SRHR), women's rights, gender and LGBTQI. The so-called shadow report, better said NGO report UPR.This is the third time that Suriname is being assessed on the human rights situation. The assessments in 2011 and 2016 were based on country reports from the government and / or international NGOs. But for this third review in November this year, it is the first time that local NGOs have submitted a report and that the government will also submit a report. This is a great milestone and we can be proud of it.In order to ensure that a qualitative report is submitted, expertise is a must and expensive. Fortunately, we have found the Nederlandse ambassade in Suriname and IPPF willing to support this process financially. As NGOs in Suriname, we have taken our responsibility to join forces and ensure that the voice that is offered to us, that we use it optimally. Our wish for Suriname is that this can and will happen more and more often to ensure that Suriname benefits from it.Many thanks to the committee members, who have put a lot of time and energy into this report. The report was discussed during the stakeholder session on 9 March. We would like to conclude with a well-known quote from Nelson Mandela: “If you want to go fast, go alone, If you want to go far, go together”.www.ohchr.org/en/hrbodies/upr/pages/NgosNhris.aspx#UPR #humanrights #NGOs #ngoreport ... ... See MoreSee Less
